Glenturret 1966 Classic Vintage Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 70cl, 47% ABV
Glenturret has a unique and intriguing backstory. While it claims to be the oldest distillery in Scotland, it also played a significant role in the advancement of distillation. However, upon closer examination, the oldest distillery claim does not hold much weight. Legend has it that the site was home to an illegal still called The Hosh (Gaelic for 'foot') in the 1770s, though the reasoning behind an illicit operation having a name is unclear. It wasn't until 1818 when John Drummond obtained a license and officially began distilling on the site. Despite the challenges faced by small Perthshire distilleries during the 19th century, Glenturret persevered and even changed its name from The Hosh to Glenturret in 1875, taking inspiration from a nearby failed distillery.
